How we became
more than a nursery
Busy Bugs started as a traditional nursery. Today, we're something different—a place where children with all abilities learn together, where families are actively involved, and where the environment feels like home, not an institution.
How we got here
From 26 children to 80+
We've grown because families trust us with their most important people. But growth isn't just about numbers—it's about adapting to what our community actually needs.
Why SEN became our focus
We didn't plan to specialise in additional needs. Families with SEN children kept choosing us because we saw their children as individuals first. Now 30 of our 80+ children have additional needs and we've built three dedicated nurture rooms to support them properly. The setting has a purpose built play area.
The curiosity approach
We've moved away from rigid, institutional early years education. Our rooms are home-like. Children learn through exploration, not instruction. We follow their interests, not a curriculum that ignores who they actually are. Natural resources are used within our environment.
What changed physically
The entire nursery has been redesigned. We've gone from large, overwhelming spaces to 7 smaller rooms that feel safe and manageable. Three of these are specialist nurture rooms with higher staff ratios and individualised support for the children to explore.
Over 20 staff who
know your children
Every staff member has key children they're responsible for—children they know inside out. Their interests, their challenges, their progress, their personality. This isn't childcare at scale. It's personal.

See it for yourself
We've changed completely from what we were. The only way to understand what we've built is to visit and see how your child would fit into our environment.
